Lesson 2: Cell Phone Provider

Homework:

  • Figure out your average usage
    • Download/ print off your last 3 cell phone bills
    • Add up the data usage from all the phone lines for the last 3 months
      • Divide the total by 3. This is your average data usage per month
    • Add up the voice/ minutes usage from all the phone lines for the last 3 months
      • Divide the total by 3. This is your average voice/ minutes usage per month
    • Add up the text usage from all the phone lines for the last 3 months
      • Divide the total by 3. This is your average text usage per month
    • Add up your bills for the last 3 months and divide by 3. This is your average monthly bill
  • Compare rates! These are the companies I recommend checking out:
  • Once you’ve found the cheapest companies for your usage, vet the company to make sure it’s a good fit!
    • How is the coverage in your area?
    • Do you travel internationally?
    • Is your current phone compatible?
    • Do you own your current phone?
      • If you’re still paying off your current phone, how much will it cost to pay the rest of it off?
      • If you’d need to buy a new phone- how much will that cost?
    • Does your current company have cancelation fees?
  • When you’ve decided on a new company, sign up, and get your numbers transferred over. Once you’re all set up at the new company, don’t forget to cancel your old plan!
