Is your cell phone bill one of your biggest monthly expenses? Learn how you can save big on your cell phone bill!
Often the cell phone bill is one of the biggest expenses for a family. Living without a cell phone isn’t really an option these days, but that doesn’t mean you need to be paying $100+ each month for your plan.
My husband and I pay $35-50/month for both our phones!
Ting
We use a company called Ting.
With Ting you pay each month for what you actually used, you don’t pay for a plan that guesstimates your usage and rolls over what you don’t use. You use your phone as much as you like and then pay for what you ended up using. Personally, that makes a lot more sense to me.
Ting costs $6 a line and then there are different cost tiers depending on usage for talk, text, and data.
Ting’s website has a great bill estimator that will help you calculate what your typical bill would be with them. Just grab your last cell phone bill that lists your talk, text, and data usage and plug it into the site!
There are also ways to set up alerts and cap your usage if you need to stay under a certain amount. You can easily set it up in their app.
And you can easily check if you can bring your phone to Ting. We’ve always paid cash for unlocked phones and activated them with Ting.
Republic Wireless
Another great company to check out is Republic Wireless. Republic connects to wifi to reduce your data usage and passes the savings on to you!
They are plan based but they have unlimited talk and text, you just pay for data. They also have a bill estimator.
GoogleFi
And the last company to check out is GoogleFi. They have 2 different plans, an unlimited plan and pay for what you use plan. We tried GoogleFi, but it was more expensive for us and our area didn’t have great coverage. But definitely scope it out for your area!
Play around on each site and see which one would give you the best deal for what your typical usage is!
For my family personally, Ting has been the best deal, but my parents, who text and call more than me, have found that Republic is a better deal for them. It really all depends on your personal usage. Whichever company you go with, I bet it can save you a significant amount each month!
Another way we save on cell phones is we don’t have the latest greatest cell phones that we’re making payments on each month. Your phone is a tool, not a status symbol.
As Dave Ramsey likes to say, “Don’t buy things you can’t afford with money you don’t have to impress people you don’t like.”
A cell phone that’s a year or 2 old will still do everything you need a phone to do at a fraction of the price.
If your cell phone is one of your biggest monthly expenses, it’s time to reassess and find a plan that’s a better fit. Compare prices and change your plan today!
